Garage Door Tips & Tricks
- SCHEDULE TIMES TO TEST THE SAFETY SENSORS
Most garage doors have safety sensors, any garage door made after 1991 have a feature where if the door touches anything it automatically starts to reverse. This prevents the doors from potentially closing on a person or pet.
Make sure you routinely test if this feature still works, all garage doors will need repairs over time, but a safety sensor is something you DO NOT want to ignore if it ever stops working or stops working consistently.
Test your garage door safety sensor by placing a soft object underneath the door while open, start to close the door with the garage door opener, when your garage door touches the item, it should automatically stop and then go back up.
If the door sensors are no longer working, CALL US RIGHT away, a garage door repair specialist will repair your garage door sensor asap.
Make note to tell your entire family and anyone else using the garage door, until the door is fixed, closely watch the door when you close it to make sure nothing gets in the way.
- ENTRY PASSWORDS SHOULD NEVER BE SHARED
In the case of an emergency, your garage door keypad is a great feature to have to open your door. If you or your kids forget the house key, you can still get safely inside. However, passwords should never be shared with anybody.
Only people living in your home should have the code, otherwise the more people who know your pass code the less secure it will be. Consider it like a key to your house.
Make sure your tell your children that the pass code should be kept secret and is unsafe to share it with anyone.

- AVOID LEAVING THE GARAGE DOORS PARTIALLY OPEN
Some people like to keep their garage doors open a little at the bottom, this sometimes helps keep the garage and other parts of the home cooler in the hot summer months. However, this is a bad habit as it poses a safety threat to your home.
Sometimes wild animals may slip into your garage looking for food and can cause a lot of damage. It also attracts burglars to your home as they will be aware you are not home.
