Overview

Clopay Modern Steel™ is the contemporary steel door: flush or horizontal-grooved panels, optional narrow windows, and 1-, 2-, or 3-layer construction. Insulation includes 2" or 1-3/8" Intellicore® or polystyrene, with official R-values up to 18.4 (for example 9202 / 9201 flush and 9205 grooved at 2"). Flush and Ultra-Grain® doors have a natural wood-grain steel texture; grooved standard-color doors use a stucco texture. Ultra-Grain® Plank is the stained horizontal-plank version when you want a wood look without Canyon Ridge cladding.

Modern Steel is what we specify on new contemporary builds, mid-century remodels, and any home that would look wrong with a raised-panel door. It is still steel — durable, paintable, and WindCode® capable.

Modern Steel vs Canyon Ridge Modern?

Modern Steel is painted or Ultra-Grain steel. Canyon Ridge Modern adds faux-wood composite planks and optional metal or glass inlays. We show both when the house can go either way.

What is Ultra-Grain Plank?

It is its own Modern Steel finish: digitally printed horizontal wood-look planks on insulated flush steel (R-18.4). See the Ultra-Grain Plank page if that is the look you want.

Can Overhead Door of America install a Modern Steel on my home?

Yes. We are an official Clopay dealer. We measure the opening, confirm wind-load needs, help you choose color and windows, and install the door with a matching LiftMaster opener when you want one.

Do these doors work in Florida heat, humidity, and storms?

Yes. We specify rust-resistant hardware, proper weather seals, and WindCode® reinforcement where required. Insulated models also help keep an attached garage more comfortable in summer.
